Clodagh Rodgers, a singer from Warrenpoint, Northern Ireland, died on Friday, April 18, 2025. She passed away at her home in Cobham, Surrey, following an illness diagnosed three years prior. She was 78 years old.

His son's announcement  (2/10)

It was her son, Sam Sorbie, who announced her death in an official statement: "She passed away peacefully yesterday, surrounded by her family in Cobham [in southwest London]. Mum lived an incredible life, full of love and joy," he began.

A magnificent tribute  (3/10)

"She spent her fantastic career singing, travelling the world, dedicating her life to her children and being the rock of this family. Life will never be the same without Mom, but she will finally be at peace and she will be reunited with Dad, Grandma and Grandpa. We love her and we will miss her terribly," he continued.

Born on March 5, 1947, Clodagh Rodgers was noticed very early on for her sublime voice. In fact, she signed her first recording contract when she was only 15 years old.

Eurovision changed her life   (5/10)

But it was in 1971 that her career took a real turn when she represented the United Kingdom at the 16th Eurovision Song Contest, held in Dublin. Clodagh Rodgers performed the song  Jack in the Box.

Of the eighteen candidates, the singer finished fourth in the Eurovision Song Contest. Despite this somewhat disappointing result, her song enjoyed considerable commercial success, reaching the top of the British charts.

Clodagh Rodgers went on to become an iconic figure on British television and in cabarets. She also starred in the sitcom  Whack-O!, and in the musicals  Cinderella  at the London Palladium and  Blood Brothers , with which she toured.

After a period of relative obscurity, she returned to the forefront of the music scene in the 1990s. The artist participated in several retrospectives and made notable television appearances. The song "  Shake Me"  by Mint Royale, which sampled her track "  Come Back and Shake Me" and was popularized in  Queer As Folk,  demonstrates the extent to which Clodagh Rodgers influenced a particular era in the UK.

The private life of Clodagh Rodgers  (9/10)

Regarding her personal life, the singer has been married twice. She had a son with each husband, the second of whom died in 1995 from a brain tumor. Clodagh Rodgers also experienced some financial difficulties, as her restaurant went bankrupt shortly before her husband's death. Her sister, Lavinia, is also a singer.

She withdrew from the industry in the 1980s  (10/10)

"After the Eurovision Song Contest, and a divorce from her manager John Morris, Clodagh Rodgers decided to withdraw from the spotlight from the beginning of the 80s. Her appearances became less frequent: she participated in a few musicals or the police series The Bill in 2001, without regaining significant success ," we could read in the columns of  Pure Charts.
